Behavioral Food for Thought

Hello Dear One!

Have you ever resigned yourself to the belief that you are as you are, even when possibly wishing to be having a different experience in the world?

Not to get too woo woo, but our bodies (and BRAINS especially) are wildly adaptive.

I thought to share two ways to train yourself to feel radically different based on exposure to the sensation most desired.

Hope this might be useful for the winter, as well as for your general state of well being.

Behaviors that can change your reality.

Love to all.

Quick fix for Muscle “Tightness”.

Hello Dear One!

If you’ve ever wished to give yourself some quick relief to an area that has felt tight, this sharing might prove useful.

Now, if you’ve yet to adopt the belief that I preach ALL the time, checking it out in action might give you a different appreciation.

When a muscle feels “tight”, chances are it’s actually taught and over stretched, versus short and compressed.

SO, if that is true – stretching it is actually the WORST thing to do.

Two better things to do would be to both stretch what’s on the opposite side of the body AND gently contract what is causing you discomfort.

This video from a couple years ago will speak to this in relation to cramping and increasing the stretch of any given area.

Check it out for more on those related matters AND a visual on this concept.

How to get a deeper stretch (or stop a cramp!)

AND Happy Thanksgiving!!

Both myself AND Carolee (Reiki and Reflexology) are in the office this week if your body (or brain!) is in need.

Would love to tend to what’s ailing you if needed.

Extensions Over Planks

Hello Dear One!

In the spirit of clarification, I thought it might be useful to get additionally real about what TRULY helps with lower back strengthening.

Planks can be a great stabilizing exercise and tend to relegate our core (our transverse abdominis), which IS the only abdominal muscle that goes all the way around our midsection.

By activating and strengthening this muscle we DO help with back stability, however we don’t necessarily create much more strength.

In order to do that we need to do more than an isometric contraction (static holding), and get some range of motion in the game, as well as RESISTANCE.

If you’d like a further spelling out of what this might look like (with a variety of options to boot), please check out this video.

Extensions over Planks

And if you’d like a full manual on YOU and how to stay safe and strong, I’ll encourage you to check out the ebook Power & Pain, OR to reach out about the in person option of Power & Pain which involves 2 sessions tailor made to deal with what you’re dealing with.

Lengthening is NOT Strengthening

Hello Dear One!

THIS is a distinction that has required some attention for MUCH time.

Frequently clients will give me a run down of what they’ve been doing exercise wise (especially on the physical therapy front) if they’ve been tending to an aspect of their body that’s been in pain.

The biggest misconception that tends to happen with the assortment of exercises that are prescribed, is that strengthening ones have not been made clear to be different than stretching ones!

And that matters BIG TIME in the realm of pain/weakness.

Give this a look see to get clarity on which is what and what might be serving you.  Or not…

Strengthening vs Stretching

And if you’d like to possibly prevent uncomfortable mumbo jumbo from going on in the first place – Power & Pain the ebook might be a useful resource.

OR if you’d like more one on one attention – Power & Pain can be done in person as a series of 2 hour plus training sessions.  Read a little more here, or please be in touch if there are further questions.

Lastly!  Have you experienced Reiki or Reflexology from Carolee yet this summer?  Worth checking out her healing touch if either curious or in need.
