In so many situations with muscular discomfort the culprits are:
Primarily – STRENGTH
Secondarily – POSITION
Strength is always Numero Uno, but the truth is you can also get away with much with EXCELLENT body positioning (or posture).
And…if your body IS strong, but you insist on slouching up a storm – there will be a point of no return in that position = PAIN.
TWO QUICK TIPS:
Strength: do lower back extensions like in this video.
Position: stick out your butt and pick up your chest = gets joints over joints and takes stress off of smaller muscles.
